Toradol/Pain Injections

Toradol, also known as ketorolac, is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is used to help relieve pain and inflammation. It works by blocking the production of prostaglandins, which are responsible for causing pain and inflammation.

Toradol injections are typically given intramuscularly or intravenously and are used to treat moderate to severe pain, such as pain from surgery, injury, or chronic conditions like arthritis. They are often used in hospitals or outpatient clinics and should only be administered under the supervision of a healthcare provider.

While Toradol injections can provide rapid relief of pain and inflammation, they should not be used long-term or in high doses due to the risk of side effects, such as gastrointestinal bleeding and kidney damage. They may also interact with other medications, so it is important to discuss all medications and medical history with a healthcare provider before receiving a Toradol injection.

Benefits of Toradol/Pain Injections

  • Effective pain relief: Toradol can be very effective in relieving moderate to severe pain caused by conditions such as surgery, dental procedures, or injuries. It works by blocking chemicals in the body that cause pain and inflammation.

  • Short-term use: Toradol is typically prescribed for short periods, ranging from a few days to a week, as it can cause serious side effects if used for prolonged periods.

  • Can be administered in different forms: Toradol can be given intravenously (IV) in the hospital, or in the form of a tablet or injection for short-term use at home.

  • Safer than opioid painkillers: Toradol is a non-opioid medication, which means it has a lower risk of addiction and dependence compared to opioid painkillers like Oxycontin or Vicodin.

  • Can reduce the need for opioids: Studies have shown that using Toradol in combination with opioid painkillers can reduce the dose of opioids required to provide effective pain relief. This can reduce the risk of opioid-related side effects, including constipation, nausea, and respiratory depression.
