Controlled Substances Policy
What are controlled substances?
Controlled substances refer to medications that are highly prone to abuse or addiction and are regulated and sorted by the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency).
Non-controlled substances, on the other hand, can also be prescribed by physicians for chronic illnesses and infectious diseases. Although a prescription is necessary, these medications are not monitored by the DEA
What is Tactus Health doing about controlled substances?
While our clinicians manage many non-controlled prescriptions, we are NOT currently prescribing controlled substances. If you are uncertain if your medicine is included in this category, you can reach us at (678) 892-9230 or send an email to myhealth@tactushealthcare.com.
Examples of Controlled Substances
A variety of substances known to be controlled substances are found, and the complete list can be found on the DEA website. Below are some common medications that we are unable to prescribe, organized by their respective health conditions:
ADHD: Adderall (amphetamine); Concerta (methylphenidate); Focalin (dexmethylphenidate); Ritalin (methylphenidate); Vyvanse (Lisdexamfetamine)
Anxiety: Ativan (lorazepam); Halcion (triazolam); Klonopin (clonazepam); Restoril (temazepam); Valium (diazepam); Xanax (alprazolam); other benzodiazepines
Pain and narcotics: Demerol (meperidine); Dilaudid (hydromorphone); Methadone; morphine; Percocet (oxycodone); Tramadol; Vicodin (hydrocodone/acetaminophen)
Sleep: Ambien (zolpidem); Lunesta (eszopiclone); Luminal (phenobarbital)

Others: cannabis and marijuana products; cough syrup with Codeine; Fioricet (butalbital/acetaminophen/caffeine); Lyrica (pregabalin); Suboxone (Buprenorphine/Naloxone)
High-abuse-potential Non-controlled Substances
Our clinicians will not prescribe some high-abuse-potential non-controlled substances like Haldol (haloperidol) or Benadryl (diphenhydramine).
In some states, specific medications classified as non-controlled substances by the DEA may still be classified as controlled since they are potential abuse candidates. Gabapentin (Neurontin) is one example of this. Tactus is only qualified to give gabapentin medications to patients who are eligible and have signed an agreement.
Apart from gabapentin, other non-controlled medications with abuse potential include:
Clonidine
Muscle relaxers like baclofen; Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine); Robaxin (methocarbamol); tizanidine, and others.
Promethazine
Sudafed (pseudoephedrine)
